Summers Memorial Park/Fitness Trail

The City of Orangeburg Parks and Recreation Department worked to develop the Summers Memorial Park Fitness Trail on Summers Ave. This project was funded by a $15,000 P.A.R.D. Grant and a $30,000 local donation for a total project cost of $45,000. The Fitness Trail enables Citizens the opportunity to exercise by walking, which is the most popular form of exercise in the United States. Tree bark is the walking surface for this three quarter mile long trail system. Being able to exercise while enjoying the natural beauty of the Park makes this a unique opportunity. The Trail's walking exercise benefit is supplemented by twelve exercise stations which will feature instructional signage and permanent exercise equipment to use as the walker follows the Trail. Other amenities associated with the project include three renovated foot bridges, entrance and distance signage, a gazebo, a water fountain, benches, and trash receptacles. The entrance to the Trail is on Webster St. near the intersection with Summers Ave. and adjacent to the First Presbyterian Church. Fifteen paved parking spaces are located at the entrance.
