Training Office

The Training Office plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive training for all agency personnel, covering both law enforcement and fire service disciplines. This encompasses training for new recruits as well as ongoing, in-service training for our veteran officers. Additionally, the Training Office is home to our Recruitment and Retention Officer, who assists the agency in locating and hiring qualified individuals and contributes to the development of strategies for retaining our current officers.

Ensuring that our agency personnel are well-prepared to execute the intricate duties of Public Safety is a top priority. Therefore, we have established a dynamic training program designed to serve three overarching purposes:

  1. Enhanced Decision-Making: Well-trained officers are generally better equipped to make sound decisions and take appropriate action in a wide range of situations.

  2. Improved Effectiveness: Training leads to increased productivity, effectiveness, and a better understanding of job requirements, resulting in a more efficient workforce.

  3. Unity and Cooperation: Training fosters a sense of cooperation and unity of purpose throughout the organization, promoting a cohesive and collaborative work environment.

Furthermore, given the Public Safety Department's responsibility to provide professional services to the community, our training initiatives are essential for maximizing employee self-improvement, skills, knowledge, and abilities. In pursuit of these objectives, the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety remains steadfast in its commitment to an ongoing, progressive training program.
