Education & Libraries
Education is a key part of life in Orangeburg. Our community is home to public schools, two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), a technical college, and a connected county library system. Together, these resources support learning, personal growth, career development, and community involvement for residents of all ages.
Public Schools
Orangeburg County School District serves families across the city and county with the mission "One Team. One Vision. One Orangeburg." The district provides academic programs, student support services, extracurricular activities, and community partnerships designed to help every student succeed.

Colleges & Universities
Orangeburg is home to two nationally regarded HBCUs and a leading technical college.
South Carolina State University
South Carolina State University is a public Historically Black College and University (HBCU) founded in 1896. It is the only public HBCU in South Carolina and is recognized for high research activity and strong academic programs. SC State offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including specialized programs in engineering, business, education, and the sciences.

Claflin University
Claflin University is a private Historically Black College and University (HBCU) founded in 1869. Known for academic excellence and innovation, Claflin emphasizes leadership development, student achievement, and a supportive campus community. The university offers a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts, sciences, business, and education.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College (OCtech)
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is a public technical college that provides career training, workforce development, and university transfer programs. OCtech offers certificate, diploma, and associate degree programs designed to prepare students for in-demand fields in healthcare, industry, business, and technology.
