New council member joins City Council with returning Mayor and councilmembers to begin their new term
Orangeburg, SC – The City of Orangeburg is proud to welcome Jordan E. Hawkins as the new Councilmember for District 1 at tonight’s council meeting. Mayor Michael C. Butler, Councilman Jerry Hannah (District 3) and Councilwoman Liz Zimmerman Keitt (District 5) have begun new terms following recent elections.
Mayor Butler, serving as Mayor of Orangeburg since 2013, expressed his enthusiasm for the new term. “I am honored to continue serving the residents of Orangeburg alongside dedicated colleagues who share a commitment to community engagement, fiscal responsibility, transparency, and progress. I look forward to working with Councilmember Hawkins and our returning council members to continue moving our city forward.”
Councilmember Jordan E. Hawkins, a lifelong resident of Orangeburg, will be sworn in at tonight’s City Council meeting. “I am truly privileged to represent District One – a district filled with residential and economic development opportunities,” said Councilman Hawkins. “I’m ready to go to work – listening to our citizens, bringing fresh ideas to the table, and being the voice that District One and all of Orangeburg deserves.”
Hawkins emphasized his commitment to fostering progress and collaboration, focusing on initiatives that promote growth, safety, and opportunity for all residents. “Orangeburg has tremendous potential,” he added. “Together we can continue moving our city forward and build a stronger, more vibrant community for future generations.”

Councilman Stroman’s contributions to community development, public service, and local initiatives have left a lasting impact in the city, and his leadership was appreciated by residents and city officials alike.
“We thank Councilman Stroman for his commitment to the residents of Orangeburg over the years,” said Sidney Evering, II, city administrator. “His work helped lay the foundation for many of the initiatives that continue to benefit our residents today.”
With this new and returning leadership team in place, the City of Orangeburg is poised to continue fostering community engagement, supporting economic growth, and providing high-quality services to its residents.
