City of Orangeburg to Receive $4,388,494 Grant from Federal Aviation Administration for Airport Runway Rehabilitation
Funding supports a portion of the final phase of runway improvements at Orangeburg Municipal Airport
ORANGEBURG, S.C. –The City of Orangeburg has been awarded a $4,388,494 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). The grant, facilitated in partnership with Representative James Clyburn, will fund a portion of the final phase of runway rehabilitation at Orangeburg Municipal Airport (OGB).
This project will rehabilitate 5,399 feet of the existing paved Runway 17/35, ensuring the runway maintains structural integrity and minimizing foreign object debris to extend its useful life. The infrastructure improvement is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, modern, and reliable airport for local and regional air travel.
“We are excited to move forward with the final phase of this airport runway rehabilitation project. This grant represents a major milestone for Orangeburg Municipal Airport and our city’s future economic development opportunities,” said Mayor Michael C. Butler, Orangeburg mayor. “Ensuring the safety and reliability of our airport not only supports air travel but also strengthens our local economy and positions Orangeburg as a key hub for transportation in the region. Pilots, passengers, and the entire community will benefit from a safer, more durable runway for years to come.”
The FAA Airport Improvement Program provides federal funding for the development and maintenance of public-use airports, supporting projects that enhance safety, capacity, and sustainability. The OGB has previously received FAA support for improvements, and this latest grant ensures the facility remains a vital asset for the city and surrounding region.
“Because of Congressman James Clyburn’s steadfast support and leadership in helping to secure this FAA grant, a beautiful and functional airport runway is on the horizon,” said Sidney Evering, III, city administrator. “We will preserve the history of the airport while incorporating modern improvements that will support the growth and needs of our community.”
This grant is associated with an Airport Infrastructure Grant that funds the remaining eligible portion of the project.
