Dr. Kalu has been a resident of the City of Orangeburg for over 41 years. He is married to Nwobiara, and they have four children. With his community activism and dedication, he ran for Orangeburg City Council to be part of something greater than himself. He was first elected to the seat in 2019 and reelected in 2023. His main goal as a councilman is city growth with emphasis on infrastructure, affordable housing, city’s finance, increased academic excellence for our school children, downtown revitalization, and finding a way to attract businesses.
Dr. Kalu believes that by working together with the citizens of Orangeburg and other stakeholders, we can make Orangeburg a modern city, while ensuring that all our contributions will provide measurable value and ongoing engagement.
He has a BS in Biology from Loma Linda University, BS in Pharmacy from University of Wisconsin, MBA with a concentration in Healthcare Management from South University, and Doctorate in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. He also has Certificates in Diabetes Comorbidities and Complications and Neurology for the Non-neurologist from Harvard School of Medicine.

- Chairman of School Board, Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five.
- Chairman of Board of Directors, Felton Laboratory Charter School.
- Adjunct Clinical Professor, MUSC and USC Colleges of Pharmacy.
- Adjunct Instructor, Chemistry Dept., Claflin University.
- Professionally working as a Clinical Pharmacist at MUSC Orangeburg Health for more than 41 years.
