City of Orangeburg Receives Final Approval of $50,000 USDA Grant from DOGE for New City Hall Furnishings and Technology
Funding supports modernization of essential public services in Orangeburg
ORANGEBURG, S.C. –The City of Orangeburg has successfully passed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) review, a standard procedure through the Rural Development Community Facility grant program, and has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The funding will support the purchase of furniture and technology equipment for the newly constructed City Hall.
The USDA Rural Development Community Facility grant program is designed to provide funding for the development of essential community facilities in primarily rural areas. Essential community facilities are defined as facilities that provide vital public services, such as city halls, fire stations, and public health clinics, but do not include private, commercial or for-profit business initiatives. The City of Orangeburg’s new City Hall, serving as a central hub for municipal services, meets this definition and will directly benefit residents and visitors.
“We are honored to receive this funding from the USDA, which will help equip our new City Hall with the furniture and technology needed to provide efficient and modern services to our community,” said Mayor Michael C. Butler, Orangeburg mayor. “This grant represents an important investment in our residents and the future of Orangeburg. Together we are moving Orangeburg forward.”
The grant funding will enhance the functionality and accessibility of the City Hall, ensuring that city departments can operate efficiently and provide top-quality services to the public. This initiative underscores the City of Orangeburg’s ongoing commitment to creating modern, accessible and welcoming public facilities for all citizens.
“Receiving this grant is a significant milestone for the City of Orangeburg,” said Sidney Evering, II, city administrator. “The grant enables us to continue developing our City Hall as a state-of-the-art facility that residents can rely on for years to come. Mr. George Hicks, Deputy State Director, Nickie Tooms, Acting Community Programs Director, and Quiana McCullough, Area Specialist, of the USDA have especially been instrumental in this process and have been extremely helpful and supportive.”
The City of Orangeburg looks forward to implementing the improvements funded by the USDA grant and continuing to enhance the experience of residents and visitors of City Hall.
