City of Orangeburg Announces Approval of Toptracer Range Installation at Hillcrest Golf Course
The City of Orangeburg, in partnership with South Carolina State University (“SCSU”), is excited to announce that City Council has approved the installation of the Toptracer Range System at Hillcrest Golf Course, bringing state-of-the-art golf entertainment and training technology to the community.
This transformative investment positions Hillcrest Golf Course at the forefront of modern golf experiences, offering residents and visitors a dynamic, interactive driving range that combines recreation, technology, and entertainment.
What Is Toptracer?
Toptracer is the same ball-tracking technology used on televised professional golf broadcasts, including coverage of the PGA TOUR. Using advanced camera systems, Toptracer tracks the flight of each golf ball in real time and displays shot data on high-definition screens inside each bay.
Golfers will be able to see:
- Ball speed
- Carry distance
- Total distance
- Shot shape and trajectory
- Accuracy relative to targets
Whether someone is a beginner learning the game or an experienced player refining their skills, the system makes practice more engaging and informative.
Entertainment Meets Recreation
Beyond traditional practice, Toptracer transforms the driving range into a social and competitive environment. Players can participate in:
- Closest-to-the-pin challenges
- Long drive contests
- Virtual rounds on world-famous courses
- Team competitions and leagues
The system creates a “Topgolf-style” experience at a municipal facility—making golf accessible, interactive, and fun for families, students, corporate groups, and casual players.
